Veterans Programs

Veterans served us. Now we serve them.

OVERVIEW OF CCSOMO VETERANS PROGRAMS

Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri (CCSOMO) provides vital services to veterans and their families through two programs.

CCSOMO currently offers the following veterans programs, which are described in more detail on this webpage.

  • Homeless Veterans Re-integration Program (HVRP)
  • Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

Homeless Veterans Re-integration Program (HVRP)

Program Description

The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) exists to reintegrate homeless veterans into the labor force by placing them into family-sustaining employment and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that will address the complex problems facing homeless veterans.

HVRP works with employers and training institutes in the communities where the veterans live to identify opportunities and overcome barriers.

Eligibility

  • Veterans with low or very low-income who are imminently at-risk of homelessness--this is defined as facing imminent loss of primary nighttime residence--and veterans who are literally homeless with no residence and no sufficient resources or support network immediately available.
  • Anyone who has served in the U.S. military for at least one day of active duty service and was discharged with anything other than a dishonorable discharge.

Application Process

Veterans are screened for eligibility and enrolled in HVRP by an Employment Specialist assigned to their area of residence. Employment Specialists work out of CCSOMO's Joplin, Springfield, and Poplar Bluff offices to service the 39 southernmost counties in Missouri.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program

Housing First

Program Description

The program utilizes a Housing First Approach. The essential idea of Housing First is that people’s need for housing is a basic one that should be met as quickly as possible, without any preconditions. The Program is designed to help Veteran Families regain housing stability after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. CCSOMO SSVF case managers offer eligible Veteran Families outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefits. Case managers also provide time-limited payments to third parties, e.g. landlords, utility companies, moving companies, and licensed childcare providers, to further the goal of achieving sustainable housing.

Eligibility

  • Veterans with low or very low-income who are imminently at-risk of homelessness--this is defined as facing imminent loss of primary nighttime residence--and veterans who are literally homeless with no residence and no sufficient resources or support network immediately available.
  • A person who served in the active military, naval or air service, regardless of length of service, and who was discharged or released therefrom, excluding any one who received a dishonorable discharge or was discharged or dismissed by reason of a general court-martial.
